Long Beach Baseball Blasts Past L.A. Mission, 18-4

It was an offensive melee this past Saturday for the Long Beach City College baseball team as they faced off against LA Mission in non-conference action. The Vikings barreled 19 hits en route to matching a season-best 18-run outburst leading to an 18-4 victory.

Freshman center fielder Zach Martinez (Lakewood, CA) paced the offense by launching his first-career, three-run round tripper in the top of the second inning en route to a 3-for-4 day with four RBI and two runs scored.

The top three hitters in the Long Beach batting order were on fire by going a combined 10-for-16 with nine RBI and seven runs scored. Freshman third baseman Reese Berberet (Fallbrook, CA) put his power on display in the top of the eighth inning by hitting a three-run homerun to mark his fourth bomb of the season.

Freshman right fielder Val Stammler (Long Beach, CA) continued to produce in the lead-off spot by going 4-for-6 with, a double, a triple, three runs scored, and three RBI. After Stammler got off to a slow start on the season, he has caught fire and currently holds a 15 game hitting streak. In that span, he is boasting a .397 batting average (27-for-68) with two homeruns, nine RBI, and 17 runs scored.

Sophomore shortstop Antonio Monroy (Maywood, CA) has been equally as impressive after recording a 3-for-6 day at the dish with three RBI and three runs scored. He pushed his hitting streak to 11 games while seven of those games have been multi-hit contests.

Sophomore hurler Schuyler Hill (Long Beach, CA) picked up his fifth victory of the season after tossing six innings and recording a pair of punch outs. He allowed just five hits as well. Sophomore reliever Jacob Zinger (Long Beach, CA) chucked the final two frames for the Vikings and allowed just one hit while striking out two batters in his fourth appearance of the season.

Long Beach (19-11-1, 11-5 SCC) will face off against the Santa Ana College Dons on Tuesday, April 11th on the road. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
