It was recently announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) that a pair of Long Beach City College Viking baseball players were named to the Southern California All-Region teams following a solid season on the diamond. Sophomore first baseman Vincent Byrd II (Sacramento, CA) was named to the First-Team All-Region squad, while sophomore shortstop Antonio Monroy (Maywood, CA) hauled in Second-Team All-Region accolades.

Byrd II was a staple for the Vikings in his final season by providing power in the middle of the order while flashing solid leather at first base. In 170 at-bats, the lefty swinger hit .371 with 50 RBI, 34 runs scored, and 63 hits. Of his 63 hits, he launched 11 homeruns and barreled 12 doubles. He owned a keen eye at the plate by drawing 29 walks. Additionally, he boasted a .635 slugging percentage and a .481 on-base percentage. Byrd II held a 10-game hitting streak at one point where he hit .486 (18-for-37) with five RBI, one round tripper, and nine runs scored. The team won six of those games. He recorded 18 multi-hit games and 16 multi-RBI games highlighted by a 4-for-6 day with six RBI in a win against El Camino. Byrd II signed a National Letter of Intent to attended Division-I California State University – Bakersfield next season.

Monroy earned second-team recognition after having a breakout season during his final campaign as a Viking. After not playing in the first five games of the season, Monroy was named the starter in the sixth showdown and never handed over the spot. A sure-handed shortstop with a strong stick at the plate, the Maywood, CA native finished the season with 60 hits and a .341 batting average in 176 at-bats coming primarily in the two-hole of the batting order. Monroy scored a team-leading 50 runs and smacked 13 doubles and a pair of three-baggers. Monroy held a 13-game hitting streak at one point in the season where he earned a clip of .431 (25-for-58). During that span, he scored 18 runs, recorded 13 RBI, and laced five doubles. He earned 18 multi-hit games as well. Defensively, he earned a .929 fielding percentage that included 68 putouts and 154 assists. Monroy signed his National Letter of Intent to attend NAIA Georgetown University (KY) next season.
