The No. 5 Long Beach City College baseball team fell to the Irvine Valley College Lasers 6-3 in their home opener. This was the second game of the three-game series. The Vikings took home the 6-1 win in the first game yesterday at Irvine Valley.

Freshman pitcher Bryan Sandoval opened the game for the Vikings and pitched effectively through five innings, while only allowing one earned run.

The Lasers took the lead early in the first inning, and didn't allow the Vikings to catch up. The Vikings put themselves on the board in the third inning with a double from freshman shortstop David Rivera to bring in freshman Michael Kunipo.

The Lasers scored two more runs in the sixth inning and then Vikings struck again in bottom of the sixth with a double from freshman Andrew Schmitt to bring home freshman first baseman Mark Stanford for the Vikings second run.

In the seventh inning, Long Beach came out swinging with a triple from freshman Michael Ramirez. Rivera was next at the dish with a single to bring in Ramirez for his second RBI of the game.

The Lasers scored two more runs in the eighth and ninth innings to seal the game two win 6-3.

The Vikings will play again on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Irvine Valley College for game three at 2 p.m.
