Baseball Dominates Barstow College on Home Turf

The men's baseball team dominated on the field against Barstow College on Thursday afternoon. Long Beach took the lead early on in the first inning and sealed the 14-3 win in the ninth.

Sophomore pitcher Jacob Alcorn (3-0) took the win with two hits, five strikeouts in six innings of work on the mound.

Sophomore outfielder Val Stammler kicked off the game on the dish with a home run to bring in sophomore third baseman Reese Berberet for the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

The Vikings came out swinging in the bottom of the second inning. To start their nine-run offensive momentum, freshman catcher David Balboa homered to score in sophomore outfielder Aaron Fawcett. Robert Funk was up next with the RBI single and then was followed by Berberet with his second double to bat in two more Vikings.

Fawcett was up next with another Viking double for two RBI. Long Beach finished the inning scoring three more runs.

David Rivera had one more in him and slammed a double in the bottom of the fourth to score in Kunipo. Barstow scored two more runs in the seventh and the Vikings bounced back in the bottom of the eight with two more runs from Balboa and Kunipo.

The Vikings will play again on Saturday, Feb. 10 against LA Mission at 12 p.m. at the Joes Hicks Field at Long Beach City College.
