Vikings Shut Down the Pasadena City College Lancers 9-7

The Long Beach City College took down the Pasadena City College Lancers 9-7 on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Vikings hold a 16-13 overall record and are 7-5 in the South Coast Conference.

Sophomore pitcher Jacob Alcorn (6-2) reeled in his sixth win on the mound with one run on nine hits, while striking out four in seven innings of work.

The Vikings took off in the bottom of the second inning with three doubles in a row from right fielder Collin Perez, freshman shortstop David Rivera and freshman second baseman Raul Gonzalez to lead the Lancers 3-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Vikings scored three more runs with an RBI single from Rivera and a 2 RBI single from sophomore outfielder Aaron Fawcett to bring in sophomore center fielder Robert Funk and freshman catcher David Balboa.

The Vikings extended their lead 8-0 over Pasadena City College in the bottom of the sixth with Perez scoring on a passed ball and sophomore third baseman Reese Berberet slamming in his 14th home run of the season to left field.

The Lancers answered back with one run in the seventh inning, but the Vikings came back with an RBI single from Gonzalez to bring in Perez.

Finally in the top of the ninth with one out to the Vikings, the Lancers scored six runs, but couldn't catch up to Long Beach and the game finished with a 9-7 victory for the Vikings.

The Vikings will play again on Thursday, April 5 at Pasadena City College at 2:30 p.m.
