Long Beach Baseball Boasts Nine All-Conference Selections

It was recently announced that nine Long Beach City College baseball players earned All-South Coast Conference (SCC) South Division Team honors.  Freshman relief pitcher Garrett Rennie, sophomore third baseman Reese Berberet and freshman shortstop David Rivera all received First-Team All-Conference recognition, while sophomore starting pitcher Jacob Alcorn and freshman starting pitcher Michael Ramirez, sophomore designated hitter Aaron Fawcett, freshman catcher David Balboa, freshman second baseman Raul Gonzalez and sophomore outfielder Collin Perez earned Second-Team All-Conference laurels.

Rennie earns First-Team recognition with boasting a 5-2 record with three saves. During conference, he pitched 34 innings with 27 strikeouts and a 2.38 ERA. He was the clutch pitcher for the Vikings to finish the game strong on the mound. He averaged 7.15 strikeouts per game and only allowed nine earned runs during the conference campaign.

The two-time All-SCC Berberet shined at the dish and in the infield the entire season. Not only was Berberet on top of the leaderboard for homeruns in the conference, but he was also the leader of home runs in the state. During conference, Berberet had a batting average of .344, a slugging percentage of .789 and boasted 24 RBIs.

Rivera rounded out the First-Team selection as the lead-off hitter for the Vikings and was consistent at the dish with a .344 batting average. River also hit two home runs during conference play and barreled in 12 RBIs. Rivera was also unstoppable at short with 26 putouts and 49 assists. He was always was on the move and was near perfect with a .938 fielding percentage and cranked out eight double plays.

Alcorn earned Second-Team honors as the starting pitcher with a 2-4 record in 49 innings of work. Alcorn boasted a whopping 44 strikeouts and held a 4.222 ERA. Alcorn was also quick on the mound with two putouts and seven assists.

Ramirez also brought home Second-Team laurels as a starting pitcher with going 2-2 on the mound, and was on top of his game with a 3.92 ERA in 41.1 conference play innings. Ramirez held off his opponents with 22 total strikeouts and averaged 4.79 strikeouts per game.

As the designated hitter, Fawcett made the Second-Team All-Conference selections with 26 hits, two doubles and one triple. Fawcett smashed a .310 batting average with 13 RBI and seven stolen bases.  

Balboa was the catalyst behind the ball for the Vikings. He earned Second-Team honors with a batting average of .326 including eight doubles, one home run and 17 RBI. As the starting catcher, Balboa had 95 putouts, 10 assists, caught four runners stealing and averaged .972 fielding percentage.

Gonzalez was key at second base and took All-Conference Second-Team honors with a .356 average with 26 hits and 13 RBI. Gonzalez was light on his feet at second with 44 putouts, 42 assists and two double plays. He held an almost flawless fielding percentage of .925.

To complete the All-Conference list for Long Beach City College, outfielder Perez rounded out the Second-Team selections as an outfielder. Perez averaged .284 at the dish with six doubles, and 5 RBI. In the outfield, Perez had 30 putouts and a .970 percentage.
