Baseball Shuts-Out LA Pierce 12-0

The Long Beach City baseball team shut-out the LA Pierce College Brahma Bulls 12-0 at the Viking Baseball Field on Friday afternoon in the second game of the Harbor Tournament. Sophomore pitcher Garrett Rennie picked up his first win on the mound with only allowing the Brahma Bulls to five hits, while striking out four.

The Vikings started their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single from sophomore first baseman Robert Barham to score in sophomore second baseman Travis Aversa. Then in the bottom of the fifth inning, sophomore right fielder Rafeeq Rahim doubled to center field to bring in sophomore left fielder Andrew Schmitt.

The Vikings continued their lead with Barham scoring off a single from sophomore shortstop Chris Rubottom.

Then in the seventh inning, the Vikings turned up the heat by scoring nine more runs. Sophomore third baseman Mark Stanford smashed a two RBI double, then Barham scored in Stanford with another double.

The Vikings weren't finished as sophomore catcher Brett Wells was scored in from a fielder's choice. Freshman outfielder Jake Creamer then came in as a pinch hitter and immediately hit a single to right field and brought in freshman pinch hitter Carter White and Rubottom.

Pinch runner Tyler Vargas, Creamer and Aversa all finalized the seventh inning by scoring and the Vikings took the 12-0 win over LA Pierce.

The Long Beach City College baseball team will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Orange Coast College at 2 p.m.
