Coach Crook Takes Home 600th Win with Shut-Out over Mt. Sac

The Long Beach City College baseball team shut-out Mt. San Antonio College 12-0 on Tuesday afternoon to seal Coach Casey Crook's 600th victory with the Vikings. With the eighth-consecutive win this season, the Vikings improve to 16-10 overall and 10-2 in South Coast Conference action.

Freshman pitcher Sebastian Irwin (4-1) earned his fourth win on the mound with only allowing the Mounties to six hits in six innings, while striking out two.

In the first inning, sophomore left fielder Mark Stanford opened the game with a two RBI single to bring in sophomore short stop Travis Aversa and sophomore second baseman Raul Gonzalez.

Then in the top of the fourth inning, Aversa tripled for three RBI to extend the Vikings' lead over Mt. SAC 5-0. The Vikings powered in three more runs in the sixth inning with another RBI single from Aversa and a triple from sophomore right fielder Rafeek Rahim to score in Aversa and Gonzalez.

In the eighth inning, the Vikings scored in two more runs from sophomore center fielder Chris Rubottom and Stanford. The Vikings then closed out the ninth inning with three runs to seal the 12-0 conference victory and Coach Crook's 600th career-win.

The Long Beach City College baseball team will return to action on Thursday, Mar. 28 at home against the Mounties at 2:30 p.m.
