Long Beach Falls to Delta in Southern California Challenge Championship Game

The No. 11 Long Beach City College Vikings baseball team fell to the No. 1 San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs 7-2 in the final game of the Southern California Challenge Tournament on Saturday morning. With the loss, the Mustangs snap the Vikings undefeated streak to 4-1.

The Mustangs opened the game with an RBI double to lead the Vikings 1-0. Then they scored three runs in the top of the third and three more in the sixth to extend the lead 7-0.

In the bottom of the ninth, freshman left fielder Bryan Sanders doubled to center field to bring in sophomore pinch hitter Diego Altamirano and sophomore first baseman Zach Rivas to put the Vikings on the board and end the game with the 7-2 loss.

The Vikings will return to the field on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Irvine Valley College at 2 p.m.
