Walk-Off Win for the Vikings Against Cypress

The Long Beach City College Vikings defeated the Cypress College Chargers with a bottom of the ninth inning walk-off 4-3 win on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Vikings advance to 4-4 overall.

Freshman pitcher Moises Guzman held the Chargers to only two runs, while striking out eight in five innings of work, and freshman closer Marcellus Henry (1-1) earned the win on the hill by holding the Chargers to one run, while striking down three in the final three innings of the game.

The Chargers scored their first run in the top of the second, followed by their second run from an RBI single.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, freshman second baseman Kamau Neighbors hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score in freshman first baseman Will Schwab to only trail by one run.

Cypress smashed a home run in the eighth inning to extend their lead 3-1, but the Vikings were ready to rally in the bottom of the ninth.

With one out and bases loaded, freshman left fielder Ryan Guerero was walked and scored in freshman pinch running Brett Abudayyeh. Then with two outs and a Charger pitching change, freshman pinch hitter Alex Seguine walked in a run to tie the score 3-3.  Finally, freshman short stop Evan Vazquez was hit by a pitch to score in Neighbors for the walk-off 4-3 win for the Vikings.

The Vikings will return to the field on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Saddleback College at 12 p.m.
