Baseball Falls in Ninth Inning to Pasadena

The No. 19 Long Beach City College baseball team fell to Pasadena City College 8-5 on Thursday afternoon at the Vikings Baseball Field. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 5-3 in the South Coast Conference and 10-9 overall.

Freshman pitcher Moises Guzman held the Lancers to two runs on four hits, while striking down six in seven innings, but freshman pitcher Timothy Fife (0-1) took the loss on the mound for the Vikings after two hits on three runs.

Freshman third baseman Evan Vazquez started the Vikings' offense in the bottom of the second with and RBI single to right field to score in freshman catcher Malik Clayton.

Then in the bottom of the third the Vikings had a three-run rally from freshman short stop Alex Seguine, freshman right fielder Raul Garcia, and freshman designated hitter Moises Guzman to lead the Lancers 4-0.

In the top of the fifth, Pasadena scored two runs to close in on the Vikings, but Garcia hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to bring in Guzman and extend the Vikings lead by one at 5-2.

In the top of the ninth, the Lancers rallied and hit back-to-back home runs for four total RBIs and to take the lead away from the Vikings. They scored two more runs and left with the 8-5 win over the Vikings.

The Long Beach City College baseball team will be back in action on Saturday, March 12 at Pasadena College at 12 p.m.
