The Long Beach City College Vikings defeated the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners 4-2 in the final game of the conference series. With the win, the Vikings advance to 14-11 and are 7-5 in the South Coast Conference.

Freshman pitcher Evan Vazquez (3-3) earned the win on the hill today with only allowing the Roadrunners to one run on two hits, while striking down three. Freshman pitcher Matthew Pinal (Sv, 2) earned his second save with only allowing one run, while striking out one in the final two innings.

The Vikings were first to lead with freshman right fielder Raul Garcia coming in on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. Then Pinal doubled down the middle to score in freshman designated hitter Moises Guzman.

Guzman then smashed a home run to left side to extend the Vikings' lead 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth.

Rio Hondo started to get some offensive momentum in the top of the seventh with loading the bases, but the Vikings defense shut it down after one run.

In the bottom of the seventh, freshman shortstop Alex Seguine hit an RBI single to bring in freshman second baseman Kamau Neighbors to bring the Vikings up to four runs. Then in the top of the eighth, the Road Runners scored one more unearned run, but the Vikings took home the 4-2 conference victory.

The Long Beach City College baseball team will be back in action on Tuesday, March 29 at home against Cerritos College at 2:30 p.m.
