No. 18 Baseball Upsets No. 5 Santa Ana with 7-4 Victory

The No. 18 Long Beach City College baseball team defeated the No.5 Santa Ana College Dons 7-4 yesterday afternoon to split the two-game series. With the win, the Vikings climb to 21-12 overall.

Sophomore starting pitcher Reed Passmore (5-2) earned the win on the hill with only allowing the Dons to four runs, on six hits in over five innings of work. Freshman pitcher Marcellus Henry was up next on the mound as he struck three out of the four batters. Freshman reliever Matthew Pinal (Sv, 6) earned the save by holding the Dons scoreless for the final two innings.

The Vikings got on top in the bottom of the first with back-to-back RBI singles from freshman Raul Garcia and freshman third baseman Evan Vazquez to score in Pinal and freshman center fielder Moises Guzman to start the game with the 2-0 lead.

The Vikings continued their offensive momentum in the fourth inning with five more runs from freshman catcher Tito Haycox, freshman second baseman Kamau Neighbors, freshman shortstop Alex Seguine, freshman designated hitter Ryan Guerero, and freshman designated hitter Moises Guzman to command the 7-0 lead over the Dons.

Santa Ana came back in the fifth and sixth innings to add four runs on the board, but the Vikings held on and took home the 7-4 win.

The Long Beach City College Vikings will be back in action on Friday, April 15 at 12 p.m. against LA Mission.
