Habelitz Strikes out Eleven to Propel Vikings over East Los Angeles

The No. 18 Long Beach City College Vikings defeated the East Los Angeles College Huskies 7-3 on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Vikings advance to 23-12 overall and are 14-5 in conference play.

Freshman pitcher Jake Habelitz (3-1) stunned the Huskies as he only allowed them two runs, while striking out 11 batters. Freshman reliever Matthew Pinal (Sv. 7) came in for the save as he held the Huskies to one hit, while striking down three in the final inning.

East Los Angeles got on the board in the first inning with two runs. Then freshman center fielder Moises Guzman singled to center field for two RBI, and Pinal ran across the dish off a Husky error.

Freshman third baseman Justin Santoyo extended the Vikings' lead to 4-2 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Vikings brought the bats in the sixth inning with an RBI single from freshman left fielder Bryan Sanders, an RBI triple from Santoyo, and an RBI double from freshman shortstop Alex Seguine.

The Huskies scored one more run in the top of the eighth, but the Vikings walked away with the 7-3 conference victory.

The Long Beach City College baseball team will be back in action on Thursday, April 21st at East Los Angeles College at 2:30 p.m.
