Baseball Celebrates Sophomore Day with 6-5 Win Over Cerritos

The Long Beach City College baseball team defeated the Cerritos College Falcons 6-5 on Thursday afternoon at the Vikings Baseball Field on Sophomore Day. With the win, the Vikings hold a 19-20 overall record and are 15-8 in the South Coast Conference.

The first four innings were scoreless against the Falcons, but then the Vikings picked up the offense in the bottom of the fifth to put up four runs on the board. Sophomore first baseman William Schwab was walked in for the Vikings' first run, and then sophomore outfielder Garcia sprinted in on a wild pitch to lead the Falcons 2-0. Sophomore catcher Malik Clayton smashed a 2 RBI double to bring in freshman outfielder Xander McLaurin and freshman outfielder Danny Rodriguez to then lead the Vikings 4-0.

In the seventh inning, Cerritos scored two runs to start creeping in on the Vikings, but Rodriguez took the opportunity to score on a passed ball, and freshman right fielder Ryan Geck hit an RBI single to bring freshman second baseman Reef Danner home.

The Falcons rallied in the top of the ninth with three runs, but it wasn't enough and the Vikings ended the game with a 6-5 win.

The Long Beach City College Vikings will return to the field on Friday, April 28, at Cerritos College at 2:30 p.m.
