The Vikings baseball team defeated the LA Harbor College Seahawks 18-5.
The Long Beach City College baseball team defeated the LA Harbor College Seahawks 18-5 on Tuesday evening in Game 1 of their South Coast Conference matchup. The Vikings put on an offensive clinic, cruising to another conference victory.
Long Beach wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, plating four runs in the first inning to set the tone. Max Ghiglieri got things rolling with an RBI single, bringing in Caleb Brandon. Aaron Mingo followed with a fielder's choice that allowed another run to cross before Eshua Desai delivered a two-run double, giving the Vikings an early 4-0 advantage.
The Vikings kept their foot on the gas in the second inning, tacking on six more runs. Ryan Lopetegui drove in two with a single, and Ghiglieri followed with another RBI. Cross Stephens added to the rally with a two-run single, and Eduardo Diaz capped off the inning with an RBI single to make it 10-0.
Long Beach continued to showcase their power at the plate, with Lopetegui launching a two-run home run in the fifth and Diaz following up with a two-run blast of his own in the sixth. Later in the inning, Logan Thurman added a two-run single, and the Vikings capitalized on an error to extend their lead to 18-0.
On the mound, Myles Dismute (W, 3-1) was dominant, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out four.
L.A. Harbor managed to get on the board late, scoring five runs across the eighth and ninth innings.
"Our offense is coming around, so hopefully we can keep that going. Myles pitched great again—he's been our number one guy all year, and he really showed that today. A lot of our bench guys got in today and had some good ABs. Also, Adrian Arrellano is moving up the ladder in that bullpen—he's been pitching really good for us," said Head Coach Casey Crook.
The Vikings will return to the field on Thursday, March 6 at LA Harbor College at 2 p.m. for Game 2 of the series.
