Anterio “Taz” Bateman (Football) and Chantel Dunson (Track and Field) have been named the Long Beach City College Male and Female Athletes of the Year for the 2014-15 sports season. LBCC head coaches along with a panel of local media selected this season’s winners.

Long Beach City College sophomore wide receiver De’Quan Hampton (Dominguez HS) has signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Southern California (USC) this fall.

Four Long Beach City College student-athletes as well as a long-time supporter of Viking athletics will be honored on Tuesday at the 59th annual Long Beach Century Club Sports Night Banquet at The Grand.

The Long Beach community lost another standout former athlete as Bill Jessup passed away at the age of 85 on January 3. Jessup stared for the Long Beach City College football team as a tight end and defensive back during the 1947 season before transferring to USC to play three seasons.

The postseason honors continue to roll in for a Long Beach City College football team that put together an impressive 9-2 overall record in 2014. Freshman running back Anterio Bateman and freshman free safety London Iakopo were both named to the California Community College Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA) Region III All-California team.

Three members of the 2014 Long Beach City College football team have signed their National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year NCAA Division I universities. Quarterback Kenny Potter (San Pedro HS) has signed with San Jose State University, tight end Clayton Granch (Valley Christian HS) will move on to New Mexico State University, and offensive lineman Patrick Scoggins (Palos Verdes HS) heads to Iowa State University.

Following a successful 9-2 season, the Long Beach City College football team was rewarded with an impressive total of 14 Southern California Football Association (SCFA) All-Central League postseason honors.

A Celebration of Life to honor Jim Stangeland, one of Long Beach City College's all-time greatest coaches as well as one of the best to come out of the city of Long Beach, will be held on November 23 from 12:30-3:00 p.m. in Room T-1200 at the LBCC Liberal Arts Campus (LAC).

Despite an impressive 8-2 overall record and a win over previous top-ranked Mt. San Antonio College, the Long Beach City College football team was left out of the four-team Southern California playoffs. Instead, the Vikings will host Golden West College in the Beach Bowl to close out the 2014 season on Saturday, November 22. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Long Beach City College Vikings closed out the regular season with a 53-31 win over rival El Camino College to snap a five-game losing streak to the Warriors and bring home the war Ax perpetual trophy on Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Freshman Darren Johnson's three-yard touchdown run with 6:56 left in the fourth quarter proved to be the game-winner as the Long Beach City College football team beat Citrus College 33-27 on the road in a National Central League game on Saturday.

Two interceptions, one fumble, and a blocked field goal were too much for the Long Beach City College football team to overcome as the Vikings dropped their second consecutive game, a 27-21 defeat to the visiting Riverside City College Tigers on Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Jim Stangeland, one of Long Beach City College’s all-time greatest coaches as well as one of the best to come out of the city of Long Beach, passed away on Saturday (Oct. 25) in Huntington Beach at the age of 92. Stangeland is a member of the LBCC Hall of Champions, Long Beach State Hall of Fame, Long Beach Century Club Hall of Fame, and the California Community College Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

The Long Beach City College Football team improved to 6-0 on the season thanks to a 31-21 come-from-behind win against Allan Hancock College at Righetti High School in Santa Maria on Saturday.

The game lived up to the hype. In a battle of nationally-ranked unbeaten football squads, No. 8 Long Beach City College pulled off a 41-38 come-from-behind win over No. 2 Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday night in front of a big crowd at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

No one can accuse the Long Beach City College football team of overlooking tonight’s game. Despite facing a Los Angeles Harbor team that hadn’t won since 2012 while having a game against nationally-ranked Mt. San Antonio College looming, the Vikings took care of business and cruised to a 62-7 win over the Seahawks on Saturday in Wilmington.
