Football: Tupua named SCFA Central League Defensive Player of the Week
Freshman defensive lineman Shalom Tupua has been named the National Central League Defensive Player of the Week by the Southern California Football Association after his performance in the Vikings' Week 2 win at Palomar College on Saturday.
Freshman defensive lineman Shalom Tupua (Carson HS) has been named the National Central League Defensive Player of the Week by the Southern California Football Association after his performance in the Vikings' Week 2 win at Palomar College on Saturday.
At Palomar, Tupua sparked the LBCC defense with six tackles (4 solo), 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Tupua is the second Viking to earn league player of the week honors this season. Freshman kicker Sergio Garcia (Wilson HS) was named Central League Special Teams Player of the Week after Long Beach's season-opning victory.
LBCC, now 2-0, returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 19) at 6 p.m. when the Vikings host Bakersfield College in their home opener at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
