Trio of LBCC Football Student-Athletes Sign National Letters of Intent

Earlier today, three student-athletes on the Long Beach City College football team inked their National Letters of Intent to participate at the next level of collegiate competition. Freshman quarterback Jake Maier (La Habra, CA) put pen to paper to attend the University of California - Davis, sophomore running back Tyree Harris (Pasadena, CA) committed to playing at Adams State University, and sophomore defensive back Christian Woo (Bellflower, CA) – who was a member of the 2015 football squad- signed to Fort Lewis College.

Maier, Harris, and Woo join sophomore offensive lineman Jacob Hines (Long Beach, CA) and freshman offensive lineman Sean Tulette (Long Beach, CA) to sign letters of intent. Hines committed to Texas Tech and Tulette inked a deal with Idaho back in December of 2016.

Maier helms the signees by committing to Division I University of California – Davis. Maier had a breakout year for Long Beach and was tabbed one of the most dangerous offensive weapons on the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) platform. The freshman phenome was named the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) Offensive Player of the Year after pacing the Central Division in passing yards-per-game (335.4) and passing touchdowns (38). He finished his season with a total of 3,689 passing yards while averaging 8.7 yards-per-attempt. When the field lights shined the brightest, so did Maier. He had a career game in the 2016 Western State Bowl where he threw for six touchdowns and 477 yards in a 47-41 victory over the Bakersfield College Renegades. Furthermore, he was named SCFA Athlete of the Week three times and threw five touchdown passes on three separate occasions.

Harris caps off his two-year career for LBCC by signing a letter of intent to participate for Division II Adams State University in Alamosa, CO. Harris, a dynamic tailback and all-around role player, led the Vikings in rushing yards with 657 off 121 total carries leading to six touchdowns. Like Maier, Harris had a career day in the 2016 Western State Bowl by rushing the ball 21 times for a massive 126 yards and a touchdown. He was named the Offensive Player of the Game following the victory. Prior to this honor, Harris was named to the SFCA Central Division Second-Team list as a utility player.

After a one-year hiatus from the team, Woo remained in shape, continued to search for an opportunity, and was granted one by Division II Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. Woo was a member of the 2015 team where he recorded 24 tackles – 16 coming solo style. Additionally, he recorded one pick in a game against the Mt. San Antonio College Mounties to seal a 38-31 victory in double overtime.
