The Long Beach City College Vikings took down the LA Valley Monarchs 54-24. With the win, the Vikings advance to 2-1 overall.

Long Beach kicked off the game with the first run by freshman running back Teshawn White. The Monarchs retaliated with a run to tie the score 7-7 going into the second quarter.

In the eighth minute of the second quarter, sophomore kicker Agustin Delgadillo kicked a 22-yard field goal for the Vikings to take back the lead 10-7. Delgadillo shined on the field by going seven-for-seven in extra points.

Freshman quarterback Drake Peabody took matters into his own hands as he ran in a touchdown at the 5:24 mark in the second quarter to keep the Vikings' offense fired up. Peabody was outstanding as held 207 yards total in the air and 58 yards on the ground.

The Vikings ended the half with another run by White to lead the Monarchs 24-7.

LA Valley pushed back in the third quarter with a field goal and then smashed a 61-yard pass into a touchdown to try and catch up to the Vikings 17-24.

Freshman running back Pierre Robinson went on the attack and slammed through the Monarch's defense with a five-yard run, then sophomore wide receiver Patrick Lee caught a seven-yard burner from Peabody to cap off the third quarter 40-17.

The Vikings opened the final quarter with a safety against the Monarchs. Robinson was still thriving off in the fourth and received a 23-yard pass from Peabody into the endzone to extend Long Beach's lead 47-17.

LA Valley had one more in them and scored with nine minutes left on the clock, but the Vikings weren't done yet and freshman quarterback Jonathan Murphy put on a show with a 10-yard sprint into the Monarch's territory to finalize the 54-24 win for the Vikings.

The Long Beach City College football team will return to Veterans Stadium next Saturday, Sept. 22 against the Riverside City College Tigers at 5 p.m.
