Long Beach suffers last-minute loss at Allan Hancock

SANTA MARIA – Long Beach City College couldn't hold a 29-21 fourth-quarter lead and suffered a 36-29 National Northern League loss at Allan Hancock College on Saturday afternoon.

The defeat dropped the Vikings to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in league play. LBCC closes out the regular season next Saturday (Nov. 12) at College of the Canyons. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Santa Clarita.

Long Beach trailed for a majority of the contest, but was down by just four points, 14-10 at halftime.

LBCC came alive in the fourth quarter as Jonathan Watson ran in a pair of touchdowns. His two-yard TD with 10:36 to play put Long Beach in front 22-21 while his 15-yard rush with 7:04 remaining extended the Vikings' lead to 29-21.

But Allan Hancock (4-5, 2-2) put together a pair of long scoring drives late in the contest to pull out the win. The Bulldogs tied it up with a touchdown and two-point conversion with 3:19 to go and put in the game-winner, a two-yard TD pass, with just 11 seconds to play.

Watson ran for 82 yards on 27 carries. He also had a 29-yard TD run in third quarter, giving him nine rushing touchdowns on the season.

Quarterback Will Madonna completed 26 of 47 passes for 260 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Ashun (Remil) Brown had 8 catches for 87 yards and Trennel Ridgely caught 8 passes for 84 yards.

Jamarlo Campbell led the LBCC defense with 9 total tackles while Thaddeus Dixon and Austin Bressler both had 6 tackles.
