Vikings Clinch 17-14 Victory Over Citrus College
The No. 19 Vikings edged out a hard-fought 17-14 win over the Citrus College Owls.
The No. 19 Long Beach City College Vikings edged out a hard-fought 17-14 win over the Citrus College Owls in conference play. With the victory, the Vikings improve to 6-4 overall and 5-2 in conference standings, solidifying their position for postseason action.
The Vikings struck first in the opening quarter with a 34-yard field goal by kicker Eric Zavala. However, Citrus responded with a touchdown just before halftime, taking a narrow 7-3 lead into the break.
The Vikings came out energized in the second half, reclaiming the lead with a 24-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jett Peddy to wide receiver Marques Guzman. Running back Khalil Warren extended the advantage with a 1-yard rushing touchdown, pushing the Vikings ahead 17-7.
Despite a late touchdown by Citrus in the fourth quarter, the Vikings' defense held firm to secure the 17-14 victory.
Defensively, left back Cordae Jones delivered a standout performance, recording nine total tackles. Defensive end Carson Moore was equally impactful, tallying six tackles, a sack for a 12-yard loss, a pass breakup, and a total of 16 yards lost for the Owls.
