Govinda Covin
Title: Defensive Line

Govinda Covin is going into his 17th season coaching and begins his 5th season as a member of the Vikings football coaching staff.

Covin joined the Long Beach City Vikings coaching staff in 2017 and will be starting his 3rd season as Special Team Coordinator. While also coaching the Linebackers and assisting with strength and conditioning.

He is also an adjunct faculty member for the kinesiology department, working with athletes on strength and conditioning. When he is not working at LBCC, Covin is a sub-teacher and part-time safety officer for CVUSD.

Prior to coaching at LBCC, Covin coached the defensive line at Pierce College and LA Valley College along with a stint at West LA College coaching linebackers. Covin worked as a defensive coordinator at multiple high schools. He helped lead Malibu HS from 1-9 to 5-5 along with the #3 defense in Ventura County 2011-12. Had the opportunity to coach John Ross of the Cincy Bengals at LB Jordan HS in 2012-13. Helped turn around a Leuzinger program that was coming off 2 0-10 seasons by helping take them to the playoffs that ended with a nail-biter of a game in the semi-finals in 16’.

Covin played high school football at Culver City from 1992-1996 where he lettered 2 years. Earning all Ocean League 1st team and Daily Breeze 1st team honors his senior year. With an opportunity to play at Fresno State not working out, he chose to attend Santa Barbara City College to play football. Covin played defensive end at SBCC from 1997 to 1999 while earning honorable mention for the WFC his sophomore year. His play earned him a scholarship to Shepherd University in West Virginia.

Covin holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree from CSUDH and is currently working towards his Master's degree. In his free time, Covin enjoys playing the piano, exercising, cooking, hiking, and a good Netflix movie. Covin resides in Hawthorne with his 3-year-old daughter Savannah.
