Men's Basketball: Vikings knock off No. 17 El Camino, 94-69

Long Beach City College stunned No. 17 state-ranked El Camino College, defeating the Warriors in convincing fashion by a final score of 94-69 on Friday at the LBCC Hall of Champions Gym. The win improved the Vikings to 6-11 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

LBCC held a narrow 43-38 lead at halftime. El Camino's Cameron Gray kept the Warriors in the ball game by scoring 21 first-half points.

But the Vikings poured it on in the second and locked down Gray. LBCC shot 21 for 31 over the final 20 minutes and outscored the Warriors (10-6, 1-2 SCC) by a 51-31 margin.

On defense, Long Beach double and even triple teamed Gray, forcing him to pass and take deeper shots from the outside. Gray shot just 3 for 10 in the second half and closed the contest with a game-high 30 points.

Long Beach took advantage of 22 El Camino turnovers and converted those in to 26 points. Four Vikings scored in double-figures on the night with sophomore Raynard Leading the way with 15 points.

Sophomore Jared Garber (pictured), and freshman Will Ervin, and Tyler Tuliau all scored 12 points.

The Long Beach men return to SCC action on Wednesday (Jan 18) when they host Los Angeles Harbor College in a 7 pm game.
