Men's Basketball: Late rally falls short for Long Beach against LA Southwest

Sophomore Ashton Edwards (pictured) scored 25 points and sophomore Tyler Tuliau added 24 points in a narrow 90-88 South Coast Conference loss to visiting Los Angeles Southwest College on Friday at the LBCC Hall of Champions Gym.

Long Beach trailed for the majority of the contest and was down 46-36 at halftime. The Vikings put together one late last push. Edwards sank three free throws with 26 seconds left to get the Vikings within four points and were down by two points after freshman Jesse Jones hit a three-pointer with 12 seconds left in the game.

LA Southwest's Justin Cobb was fouled with two seconds remaining and missed both his free throws. But Austin Jancan's desperation three-pointer from half court fell short and the Cougars escaped with the win.

Freshman Rueben Strickland added 14 points for the Vikings. Cobb had a game-high 34 points for LA Southwest (4-12, 1-2 SCC).

Long Beach (5-12, 0-3 SCC) will look to snap a seven-game losing streak on Friday (Jan 18) when it hosts LA Trade Tech College at 6 p.m.
