Vikings stay on top of SCC standings with 100-90 win over Compton

Elijah Gaines (San Pedro HS) scored 23 points and Brandon Staton (Poly HS) added 21 points to help lead the Long Beach City College men's basketball team to a 100-90 South Coast Conference interdivision win over visiting El Camino College-Compton Center on Friday at the Hall of Champions Gym. 

Ryan Stewart (Hawthorne HS) also added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds for LBCC while Chris Spencer (Jordan HS) had 19 points and nine rebounds.

The Vikings scored 100 points for the second time this season. Long Beach and Compton were tied 44-4 at halftime before LBCC opened the second outscoring the Tartars 18-4 to pull away for good.  

Compton (7-13, 3-3 SCC) got an impressive performance from Wesly Harris as he scored a season-high 51 points. Harris made 14 of 35 shots, was 8 for 19 from three-point range, and sank 15 of 16 free throws.

LBCC remains in a first-place tie with Cerritos at 5-1 in the SCC South Division and is 13-7 overall. Long Beach has won seven of its last eight games. The Vikings are at Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday (Jan 29) at 5:00 p.m..
