Former Long Beach City College men's basketball standout Ashton Edwards was recently named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week after an impressive two-game performance for the University of Alaska in Fairbanks.

Edwards totaled 53 points last week, scoring a career-high 30 points against Western Washington University on Thursday and 23 points vs. Simon Fraser University on Saturday. Over the two contests, he made 16 of 32 field goal attempts including 7 of 12 three-pointers and 14 of 15 free throws.  Edwards also had seven rebounds and four assists.

"I'm really excited about how Ashton is playing right now; his consistency from game to game has really improved," said Alaska head coach Mick Durham "Ashton's game is developing with his ability to see the court and play solid defensively. He's more than just a scorer."

For the season, Edwards is averaging 14.8 points and 3.2 assists per game for the Nanooks.

Edwards was a South Coast Conference South Division honorable mention selection as a sophomore for LBCC during the 2012-13 season when he ranked second on the Vikings with 19.4 points per game. His 4.2 assists per game led Long Beach.
