Men's Basketball: Vikings down El Camino 68-55 to stay unbeaten in conference play

Four Vikings scored in double figures as Long Beach City College beat visiting El Camino College 68-55 in a South Coast Conference South Division game at the LBCC Hall of Champions Gym on Friday night. 

Sophomore Chris Spencer (Jordan HS) totaled game-highs of 17 points and eight assists to lead the Vikings in the rout. Sophomore Elijah Gaines (San Pedro HS) added 16 points and five steals, while sophomore Andre Springer (Jordan HS) nailed four three-pointers on his way to 12 points. Sophomore Brandon Staton (Poly HS) chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

Long Beach led 33-18 at halftime before allowing El Camino to get back in the game late in the second quarter. The Warriors got within six points at 57-51 with 3:39 to play, but LBCC responded with three-pointers by Gaines and Springer and extended its lead 64-51 with two minutes left in the contest.

El Camino (5-8, 1-1 SCC) got a double-double from Emmanuel Pope with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

With the win, Long Beach improved to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in SCC play.The Vikings have won four straight games, including nine of their last 10.

Long Beach returns to action on Wednesday (Jan 14) when it travels to LA Harbor College for a 7 pm SCC game.
