Men’s Basketball: Big second half lifts Long Beach to 83-62 win at El Camino

The victory was LBCC's third straight and improved the Vikings to 11-10 overall and 2-0 in SCC South play.
The first quarter of Wednesday's contest was close until Long Beach took over in the second. Holding a narrow 22-20 lead at the 9:42 mark, Richard caught fire. He scored the Vikings' next 11 points as part of an 11-4 run to extend LBCC's lead to 33-24 with 2:16 left in the half.
El Camino (4-16, 1-2 SCC) closed out the period scoring the final four points to cut LBCC's lead at halftime to 33-28. After a quick basket by the Warriors' Kevin Corona to open the second, LBCC put the game out of reach with a 9-0 run. Long Beach led by as many as 25 points with just under two minutes left in the contest as the Vikings outscored El Camino 50-34 in the second.
Sophomore Chris Camper (Poly HS) nearly had a triple-double with a game-high 19 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists while freshman Jeremiah Blandin posted his seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Mena Saad (West Torrance HS) also nailed four 3-pointers on his way to 16 points.
Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Jan. 29) when the Vikings travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 7 p.m. SCC South game.
