Men’s Basketball Crowned SAC Tip-Off Tournament Champions

The Long Beach City College men's basketball team opened the 2018-19 season by being named the Santa Ana College Tip-Off Tournament Champions. The Vikings defeated Santa Ana College 74-71 on the first day of the tournament and then went on to win the second game against No. 11 Santiago Canyon 74-62.

Freshman guard Jace Bass from Redondo Union High School was named the 2018 Tournament Most Valuable Player as he totaled 48 points for the tournament. In total, Bass also held five assists, seven steals, one block and had 13 rebounds.

Freshman guard Aaron Jelks and sophomore forward Matthew Wooten were named to the All-Tournament Team to round out the honors.

Wooten was on fire during the Santa Ana game as he scored eight points and held 16 rebounds and had one steal. During the game against Santiago Canyon, Wooten scored seven points, totaled nine rebounds, got two blocks against the Hawks and had one assist in 25 minutes play.

Jelks scored eight points against the Dons in game one of the tournament and held 100% accuracy in three-pointers. During the second game, Jelks helped the Vikings get the win with five assists, one steal and had two rebounds.

The Long Beach men's basketball team will play again on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Riverside City College at 6 p.m.
