Akinbile Leads the Vikings in 74-58 Victory over Mt.SAC

The No. 8/12 Long Beach City College men's basketball team earned their tenth win of the season with a 74-58 victory over the Mount San Antonio College Mounties on Friday evening in the Hall of Champions. With the win, the Vikings advance to 10-2 overall.

The Mounties were ready to attack the Vikings and opened the game with a 7-0 start. Sophomore guard Jordan Heard was the first to get on the board for the Vikings with a three pointer and an assist from sophomore guard Jamiu Akinbile.

The Vikings kept striking back at the Mounties until they tied the game 10-10 with another jumper from Heard. The Mounties were relentless and passed Long Beach again, but freshman guard Kester Ofoegbu tied the game at the free throw line 12-12.

Long Beach took back the offensive control and finished out the first half on top 48-23.

In the second half of the game, Long Beach did not give up the lead. Akinbile was first to extend the lead with a pair of free throws and freshman guard Jace Bass smashed a dunk from Akinbile to solidify Long Beach's presence.

Long Beach had their largest lead by 30 points in the second half and totaled 36 rebounds for the game. Akinbile lead the team with 13 points, five rebounds, six assists and had two steals. Freshman guard Aaron Jelks was up next with 12 points and had two assists.

The Long Beach City College men's basketball team will return to action next Friday, Dec. 21 against LA Pierce College at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Champions.
