No. 6 Vikings Suffer Conference Loss to No. 10 Cerritos College

The state-ranked No. 6 men's basketball team fell to the No. 10 Cerritos College Falcons 94-75 on Wednesday evening in their first South Coast Conference game.  The Vikings were 81.5% at the free throw line and totaled 31 rebounds as a team for the game.

The lead changed four times during the game, but the Vikings weren't able to hold on against the Falcons. The Falcons were first on the board and sophomore guard Jordan Heard was next up with a three pointer for Long Beach. During the first half, Heard hit two three pointers and had eight total points with two rebounds.

Sophomore guard Jamiu Akinbile totaled nine rebounds at halftime and hit five more in the second half. At the end of the half, the Vikings were trailing the Falcons by seven points.

In the second half of the game, the Falcons got more aggressive on offense and nailed 50 more points to take home the 94-75 conference win.

 Freshman guard Jace Bass totaled 21 points for the Vikings with six rebounds and five assists. Akinbile also totaled 15 points and had three steals. Heard held on with 13 points for Long Beach, six rebounds and led the team with five assists.

The Long Beach City College men's basketball team will return to action on Friday, Jan. 25 at Compton College in their second South Coast Conference game at 5 p.m.
