No. 11 Men’s Basketball Wins Second-Consecutive Conference Game

The Long Beach City College men's basketball team defeated the LA Harbor Seahawks 81-74 in their third South Coast Conference game on Wednesday evening in the Hall of Champions. This is the Vikings' second-consecutive conference win, with the first conference win being over Compton College last week. With the win, the state-ranked No. 11 Vikings advance to 17-4 overall.

The Vikings started off on the wrong foot as the Seahawks immediately took the lead at the beginning of the first half. Long Beach caught up and they had their largest lead of the game by 10 points at the 13 minute mark.

Sophomore guard Jordan Heard took the reins in the first half as he led the team with nine points. Sophomore guard Jamiu Akinbile was perfect at the line for the Vikings as he went four-for-four.  Akinbile and sophomore forward Matthew Wooten totaled four rebounds each before entering the second half. The Vikings closed out the first half of the game 36-35, only to lead LA Harbor by one point.

Sophomore guard Jeremiah Sadler started the second half with a layup to extend Long Beach's lead, then was followed by a layup from Akinbile. Freshman guard Jace Bass showed off his offensive skills with three dunks in the second half to seal the Vikings' 81-74 conference win over the Seahawks.

During the game, the Vikings totaled 39 rebounds, 15 assists and had 36 points in the paint. Bass made 23 points with nine rebounds and had two assists for the Vikings. Sadler scored 15 points and had six rebounds with two assists and two steals.

The state-ranked Vikings will return to conference action on Friday, Feb. 1 against El Camino College at 5 p.m. in the Hall of Champions.
