Men's Soccer: No. 3 Mt. SAC too much for Long Beach in 6-0 loss

Men's Soccer: No. 3 Mt. SAC too much for Long Beach in 6-0 loss

The Long Beach City College men's soccer team suffered a 6-0 South Coast Conference loss to No. 3 nationally-ranked Mt. San Antonio College on Friday.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 3-2-3 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play while Mt. SAC extended its unbeaten streak to 22 games and is 8-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the SCC.

The Mounties just had too much offense for Long Beach to defend. Mt. SAC outshot LBCC by a 23-6 margin and played stingy defense to keep the Vikings off the board.

Luis Fuentes provided the Mounties' offense in the first half as his three goals gave Mt. SAC a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Long Beach came out with a higher intesity level in the second half and did a better job of disrupting the Mounties' passing.

But Mt. SAC broke the game open with  back-to-back goals in the 74th and 75th minute to slam the door on any LBCC comeback attempt.

The Vikings' best scoring opportunity came in the 28th minute.

Freshman Andres Montes sent a pass down the left side to freshman Tim Harty. He broke through for a one-on-one with Mt. SAC goalie Adrian Topete, but Topete charged the ball and stopped Harty's chip shot to turn away the Vikings.

Freshman Cesar Tamayo posted four saves in goal for Long Beach.
