Men’s Soccer: Long Beach opens season with 3-1 win at San Diego City

The Long Beach City College men's soccer team scored three second-half goals to pull out a 3-1 non-conference win in its season opener on Tuesday at San Diego City College.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Vikings rallied for the come-from-behind win. According to co-head coach Pat Noyes, it was LBCC's first win at San Diego City in nine years.

Freshman Mats Karlsson tied the score early in the second half before sophomore Kevin Jimenez (pictured) tallied what proved to be the game-winner. Sophomore Andre Martinez sealed the victory with an insurance goal late in the contest.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jorge Becerra made three saves, including a point-blank shot early in the second half that kept the game close.

Long Beach, now 1-0, plays its first four games on the road. LBCC is back in action on Tuesday (Sep 4) at Irvine Valley College at 4 pm. The Vikings follow that with games at Taft and Orange Coast before their home opener on September 14 against San Diego City at 4 pm.
