Men’s Soccer: Vikings suffer first SCC loss, fall 2-0 to No. 3 Mt. SAC

The Long Beach City College men's soccer team was shutout for the first time this season after dropping a 2-0 South Coast Conference game to visiting Mt. San Antonio College on Friday at LBCC.

The Vikings' first SCC loss dropped them to 1-1-2 in conference play and 3-6-2 overall, while No. 3 state-ranked Mt. SAC improved to 9-1-0 and 3-1-0 in the SCC.

Mt. SAC got first-half goals from Jose Gonzalez (27th minute) and Norberto Ochoa (40th minute) to take a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Long Beach came out and dominated the second half of the contest but couldn't get anything past Mt. SAC goalkeeper Adrian Topete. The Vikings outshot the Mounties 7-3 over the final 45 minutes and had a 10-3 advantage for the game in corner kicks.

Viking sophomore Andre Martinez and freshman Jon-Eric Krans had a pair of breakaway shots stopped by Topete. He totaled four saves for Mt. SAC. LBCC goalie Jorge Becerra had one save.

Long Beach returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 9) when it hosts rival Cerritos College at 4 p.m.
