Men's Soccer: Long Beach plays Compton to 1-1 conference draw

Long Beach City College freshman Joel Altilano (Artesia HS, pictured) scored a first-half goal as the Vikings earned a 1-1 South Coast Conference draw with El Camino College Compton Center on Friday at LBCC.

Long Beach is still in search of its first SCC win. With the tie, the Vikings' moved to 3-5-5 overall and 0-4-2 in conference play.

Altilano got the Vikings on the board with an impressive goal in the 33rd minute. Freshman Alex Martinez (Artesia HS) fed him on a short breakaway pass and Altilano nailed a shot from 30 yards out into the upper-right corner of the goal to give Long Beach a 1-0 lead.

Compton got the equalizer in the second half when Hector Vitial hit a long-range shot of his own from 25 yards out in the 58th minute.

The game was close throughout the remainder of the second half. LBCC finished the contest with a narrow 14-10 shooting advantage over Compton. Long Beach goalkeeper Luis Anguiano (Bellflower HS) made three saves while Compton (5-6-2, 0-4-2 SCC) got seven saves from Manuel Leon.

Long Beach returns to action on Tuesday (Oct 22) when it travels to El Camino College for a 4 p.m. SCC game.
