Long Beach City College freshman Evair Marin (Cabrillo HS) had a goal and an assist while freshman goalkeeper Daniel DeHaro (Cabrillo HS) posted 10 saves to lead the Vikings' men soccer team to 2-1 South Coast Conference win at rival Cerritos College on Tuesday.

Long Beach is unbeaten over its last five games and has moved into third place in the SCC standings with a 4-3-2 conference mark. The Vikings are 6-4-5 overall heading into Friday's (Oct. 31) 4 p.m. home match against East Los Angeles College.

On Tuesday, the Vikings were outshot by a 20-11 margin but were able to make their scoring chances count.

Long Beach took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when Marin completed a pass in the box to freshman Hector Solis (Bellflower HS), who had room to turn and get off a clean shot that went under the diving arm of Cerritos goalkeeper Ivan Del Campo. It was a 2-0 Vikings lead in the 53rd minute when Marin struck from just inside the box, as he found Del Campo coming out to play him and he sent a shot to the back of the net.

Cerritos (8-3-5, 3-2-4 SCC) cut the Vikings' lead to one goal when Christian Carrillo scored in the 79th minute, but the LBCC defense was able to hold on for the win.
