The Vikings had their chances but couldn't capitalize as the Long Beach City College men's soccer team played visiting El Camino College Compton Center to a scoreless draw on Friday at LBCC.

Long Beach is unbeaten in seven of its last eight contests, and with the South Coast Conference tie moved to 6-5-7 overall and 4-4-4 in conference play.

The Vikings outshot the Tartars by a 13-9 margin but couldn't finish their scoring opportunities. LBCC pounded the ball on the Compton goal over the final five minutes but came up empty.

In the 86th minute, sophomore Alex Martinez (Artesia HS) couldn't redirect a cross pass from sophomore Jose Garcia (Artesia HS) on goal and in the 89th, Hector Solis' (Bellflower HS) shot from 10 yards in front of the goal sailed just above the crossbar.

Freshman goalkeeper Daniel DeHaro (Cabrillo HS) posted his third shutout of the season for the Vikings and made four saves.

Compton (3-9-7, 1-6-5 SCC) goalkeeper Eduardo Plaza had three saves while his defense also came up big to knock down a pair of open-goal shots.

Long Beach has just two games to play before closing out the regular season. The Vikings host Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday (Nov. 11) and will face Pasadena City College on Friday (Nov. 14), both games at 3 p.m.
