Men's Soccer: Vikings take over second place in SCC with 1-0 win over Compton

The Long Beach City College men's soccer team picked up its fourth straight win as the Vikings earned a crucial 1-0 South Coast Conference victory over visiting El Camino College Compton Center on Tuesday at LBCC.

With the win, Long Beach took over sole possession of second place in the SCC standings with 18 points and a 6-3-0 conference record. The Vikings, now 10-5-1 overall, sit just two points back of leader Mt. San Antonio College (20 points, 6-1-2 SCC) with five conference games left to play.

 On Tuesday, Compton outshot Long Beach by a narrow 12-10 margin but it was the Vikings that were able to score the lone goal to pull out the win. In the 30th minute, sophomore Manuel Larios (Millikan HS) raced down the left sideline before sending a cross pass to the middle to sophomore Joel Atilano (Artesia HS). He ripped his shot past Compton goalkeeper Roberto Garcia for the eventual game-winning goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Connor Fatone (Los Alamitos HS) needed to make just two saves to help lead the Vikings to their fifth shutout of the season.

with the loss, Compton dropped to third place in the SCC at 4-2-3.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Oct. 30) when the Vikings travel to El Camino College for a SCC game.
