Men’s Soccer: Long Beach defeats El Camino 3-1 for fifth straight win

Sophomore Evair Marin (Cabrillo HS) had a goal and an assist to help lead the surging Long Beach City College men's soccer team to a 3-1 win at El Camino College on Friday. The South Coast Conference victory was the Vikings' fifth straight and seventh out of their last eight games.

At 7-3-0, Long Beach remains two points back of SCC-leading Mt. San Antonio College (23 points) with a 7-1-2 record. LBCC is 11-5-1 overall heading into Tuesday's 3 p.m. conference game at home vs. Los Angeles Harbor College.

On Friday, Long Beach jumped out to a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half. Marin scored an unassisted goal in the third minute followed by James Pacheco's (Mayfair HS) goal in the 27th minute off the double assist from Israel Gonzalez (Paramount HS) and Bryan Majano (Downey HS).

El Camino (3-8-6, 2-3-5 SCC) cut the lead in half, getting a goal by Marcos Ambriz in the 44th minute to make the score 2-1 heading into the break.

The second half remained scoreless all the way until the 84th minute when sophomore Manuel Larios (Millikan HS) iced the victory for Long Beach with his goal off the assist from Marin.

Freshman Connor Fatone (Los Alamitos HS) posted four saves in goal for the Vikings.
