The Long Beach City College men's soccer team erased a first-half deficit and rallied to beat visiting Los Angeles Harbor College 3-1 in a South Coast Conference game at LBCC on Tuesday.
The win was the Vikings' sixth straight and improved their overall record to 12-5-1 and moved LBCC into a first-place tie in the SCC standings with No. 4 nationally-ranked Mt. San Antonio College. Long Beach, with an 8-3-0 conference mark and Mt. SAC, with a 7-1-3 SCC record, both have 24 points as they head into Friday's 3 p.m. showdown at LBCC.
On Tuesday, LA Harbor stunned the Vikings early, getting a goal by David Baez in the third minute. Despite the wake up call, Long Beach couldn't score in the first half and went into the break trailing the Seahawks 1-0.
But the LBCC offense came alive in the second for its three goals. Sophomore Evair Marin (Cabrillo HS) got the equalizer in the 56th minute, nailing his deep shot from 25 yards out past Harbor goalkeeper Brian Hernandez.
Just two minutes later, the Vikings pulled ahead for good when freshman Bryan Majano (Downey HS) headed in a free kick from sophomore Joel Atilano (Artesia HS) in the 58th. With darkness setting in, LBCC iced the victory with freshman Bryan Portillo's (Norwalk HS) goal off Atilano's second assist in the 79th minute.
Freshman Connor Fatone (Los Alamitos HS) posted a season-high seven saves in goal for the Vikings while Hernandez made five saves for Harbor (5-10-3, 3-6-3 SCC).
