Needing a win or a tie to keep its lead in the South Coast Conference standings, the Long Beach City College men's soccer erased a 2-0 second-half deficit to pull out a 2-2 draw at Pasadena City College on Tuesday night. LBCC's tie combined with second-place Mt. San Antonio College's loss wrapped up the Vikings' first conference championship since 2006.

With the SCC title, Long Beach has also secured an automatic bid into the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Tuesday's outcome was seriously in doubt after Pasadena posted goals in the 55th and 64th minutes to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

But the Vikings never quit. Sophomore Evair Marin (Cabrillo HS) knocked in a penalty-kick goal in the 70th minute to give LBCC life. And in the 86th minute, sophomore Andrew Geber (Palos Verdes HS) put back a rebounded shot by sophomore Jesse Funes (Kennedy HS) for the equalizer.

Freshman Connor Fatone (Los Alamitos HS) made five saves in goal for Long Beach while Yusef Elmarsi also had five saves for Pasadena (1-15-4, 1-9-3 SCC).

Long Beach, now 13-5-2 overall and 9-3-1 in SCC play, closes out the regular season on Friday (Nov. 13) when the Vikings host East Los Angeles College at 3 p.m. The Southern California Regionals Playoffs begin with opening-round games on November 21. LBCC will be making its third straight postseason appearance.
