Viking Men's Soccer Suffers 0-2 Defeat in Season Opener against Santa Ana

The Long Beach City College Viking men's soccer team kicked off its 2016 campaign on Friday evening by facing off against the Santa Ana College Dons. The Vikings were held scoreless in their season opener while surrendering a pair of netters en route to a 0-2 defeat.

Freshman defender Alejandro Martin (Long Beach, CA) kicked off the scoring initiatives for the Vikings in the first half by narrowly missing a header in the 37th minute. Sophomore forward Victor Naves (Long Beach, CA) mimicked his counterpart's attempt minutes later, but came up empty. Freshman forward Christian Lopez (South Gate, CA) rounded out the shooting for Long Beach in the first half.

The Viking fired off four shots in the second half. Freshman forward Ruben Martinez (Norwalk, CA) and sophomore defender Hector Rojo (Bellflower, CA) each recorded a shot on goal, but to no avail, thus leading to the defeat. 

Freshman goalkeeper Saul Ocampo (Hawaiian Gardens, CA) picked up the loss after hauling in three saves in 90 minutes of action between the posts.

The Vikings (0-1) will continue play on Tuesday, August 30 by taking on the Southwestern College Jaguars (1-0) on the road at 4 p.m.
