Men's Soccer 2019 Season Awards

Due to the cancellation of the Long Beach City College (LBCC) all-sports banquet, the men's soccer team announced their recipients of their awards for the 2019 season. During the season, the team finished in fourth place in the South Coast Conference (SCC).

Freshman forward Gustavo Cervantes earned the Most Valuable Player award on the team for leading the team with eight assists and recorded three goals from his wing position, accounting for 25% of the team's goals on the season. Cervantes also received All-Conference First Team honors. 

For the second year in a row, the Coaches Award honors went to sophomore midfielder, team captain, Jaelyn Agu. This award goes to the player who exemplifies himself in the strongest manner for the team. Agu always came to trainings and games and led the team with his level of effort and encouragement to his teammates. Agu was also an All-Conference First Team selection this year and was named SCC All-Tournament. 

The Most Improved Player award was given to freshman goalkeeper Oliver Juarez. Juarez was one of three goalkeepers on the squad, led the team in goals-against average, goals-against, saves, and save percentage. Juarez opened the season in the first two games and then came back and started six of the final seven games of the year, leading the team from the back.

Freshman forward Cameran Badal received the Golden Boot award as he recorded seven goals and an had one assist in the first eight games of the season, before sustaining an injury that kept him out for most the season. He was able to come back for the SCC conference tournament and helped lead the team to its highest team goal output in the year's last game.

Two-time All-Conference selection sophomore midfielder and team captain, Sergio Flores was a true team leader, who was like another coach on the field for the squad. He finished his LBCC career by recording two goals in the team's last game of the season, and being named player of the game. 

Rounding out the awards was All-Conference Second-Team recipient sophomore midfielder Alexander Moreno. Moreno recorded three goals and four assists on the season and was a player to be reckoned with. After the season, California State University Dominguez Hills offered him a scholarship, where he will be continuing his college athletic and academic career. 

In addition to Moreno receiving his scholarship, three other Vikings have committed for continuing their career at a four-year universities next year, and two more are awaiting to make their final decision. Once all players have made their choice, an announcement will be made on LBCCVikings.com.
