In their conference home opener, the Vikings exploded for four goals, and the team maintained its No. 1 in the region's defensive goal against average of .50 in their 4-0 home conference opening victory over Pasadena College. Diego Albanez (Valley Christian H.S.) scored a brace, and Miguel Ibarra (L.B. Poly H.S.) and William Cabello (Wilson H.S./San Diego Christian College) each chipped in a goal for the Vikings.
Once again, Long Beach dominated possession during the contest. In minute 17, Long Beach was awarded a free kick. Ibarra perfectly placed his entry to an oncoming Albanez who headed in the goal for 1-0 lead. Although the Vikings had several more opportunities, the score remained 1-0 at the half.
In the second half, LBCC came out with a strong presence. Alan Avila (L.B. Poly H.S.) gave his best performance of the year putting continuous pressure on the Pasadena back line, and at the same time, giving the starters a much-needed break. When he came out, Albanez came back on and scored his second goal of the game minutes later. Ibarra's goal came in minute 75 off of a fine assist from Brian Chang (Los Alamitos H.S./Cal State San Marcos). The final goal came off of a fine run and assist from Cameron Badal (Millikan H.S.) and first-time finish by Cabello on minute. Jonathan Grado (Anaheim H.S./C.S. San Marcos) once again turned in a fine performance running the tempo of the game for the Vikings.
Long Beach will visit Rio Hondo College, on Tuesday, who upset the No. 2 team in the nation on Friday.
