Late Goal Earns 2-1 LBCC Victory at San Diego City College

In a match that saw two familiar foes play each other, the Vikings were able to get a 2-1 victory on the road at San Diego City College when Diego Albanez (Valley Christian H.S.) scored his second goal of the game in the final three minutes of action off of a superb through ball from Jesus Moreno (Millikan H.S.).

Long Beach got on the board first in minute 38 when Rene Garcia (San Diego Christian College./Smidt H.S.) won the ball in the center midfield. With his head up, he was able to find William Cabello (San Diego Christian College/L.B. Wilson H.S.) on the right flank. Cabello first times the ball into the middle where Albanez came streaking in and headed the ball into the near upper corner.

In the second half, the Vikings would dominate possession of the ball, but were unable to score on numerous attempts. San Diego would make them pay for their missed chances by putting a goal away in minute 78. When it seemed that the game might end in a draw, Albanez scored his brace in what would prove to be the game winner.

LBCC's next game is on Tuesday, September 21 versus L.A. Mission College at Cabrillo High School.. This will be the first time the Vikings have ever had a game at Cabrillo.
