Vikings' Regional Leading G.A.A. Improves Against L.A. Harbor

On an evening that saw the visiting Vikings (5-1-6, 1-0-2) dominate the game from start to finish, they were unable to score and had to settle for a 0-0 tie with host L.A. Harbor (6-7-2, 0-3-1). Oliver Juarez (Downey H.S.) recorded his seventh shutout of the year as LBCC lowered its regional leading goals against average to 0.58. The shutout would not have been possible without the fine defensive play and rotation of Adrian Acevedo (L.B. Jordan H.S.), Manny Ramirez (Valencia H.S.), Brian Chung (CSUSM/Los Alamitos H.S.), Eduardo Flores (Paramount H.S.), Alejandro Cabello (Millikan H.S.) as well as DCM Carlos Bahena (Anaheim H.S.).

Early in the contest Diego Albanez (Valley Christian H.S.) had a break away attempt that was thwarted by the keeper. Minutes later, Jesus Moreno (Millikan H.S.)  would see his attempt on target, but saved by the L.A. Harbor keeper again. Twenty minutes later, Jose Ventura (Anaheim H.S.), received a through ball from Miguel Arroyo (L.B. Poly H.S.), but saw his opportunity also saved by the host keeper.

Eduardo Mosqueda (Cabrillo H.S.), playing in his first match of the season, also saw his best opportunity denied when the keeper made a save on his volley attempt from 12 yards out. Cameron Badal (Millikan H.S.) also saw his attempt inside the box denied. As they were continuing to apply pressure on L.A. Harbor, Ventura was fouled just outside of the penalty box. Chung stepped up to take the direct free kick and saw his attempt slam off of the crossbar. On the final possession of the game William Cabello (San Diego Christian College, Wilson H.S.) got loose on the left side of the box, beat his defender, and took his shot. Unfortunately, it went off of the side netting, ending the game at zeros.

The Vikings will be on the road again for the third consecutive game as they face Compton College Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 2:00.
