The No. 4 state-ranked Long Beach City College Vikings continued their perfect season, improving to 6-0 with a 3-1 win over the Antelope Valley Marauders. From the opening whistle, the Vikings dominated possession, keeping Antelope Valley pinned in their own half for the first eight minutes as they sought to break through and score.
In the 19th minute, Ulisis Grado delivered a well-placed corner that found Asael Salas, who volleyed it home from 16 yards out to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Antelope Valley quickly responded with an intercepted pass and fired a stunning shot into the upper corner of the Vikings' goal from 28 yards out, leveling the score. Despite outshooting the Marauders 9-1 in the first half, the Vikings couldn't regain the lead before the break.
The Vikings maintained control in the second half, and ten minutes in, Carlos Reyes danced through defenders in the box and set up Jobe De La Cruz, who calmly finished to put the Vikings back in front, 2-1. Goalkeeper Abraham Ramirez had little to do, making just one save as the defense—anchored by Joel Mata, Robert Orozco, Diego Penazola, and Marcos Zambrano—kept the Marauders at bay.
Ulises Grado sealed the victory with the Vikings' third goal, assisted by Jose Mariscal.
Next up for the Vikings is a road matchup against the state's 13th-ranked team, San Bernardino Valley, this Friday at 6:00 p.m.
