In their final preseason match, the No. 3 state-ranked Vikings dominated LA Mission with a convincing 4-1 victory, boosting their record to 9-1.
Long Beach opened the scoring in the first half when forward Julian Zarate intercepted a pass, charged toward the Eagles' goal, and calmly slotted the ball into the side netting for an early lead. Twenty minutes later, the Vikings doubled their advantage. Midfielder Ulises Grado found forward Asael Sales on the wing, who delivered a pinpoint cross to forward Jose Mariscal, who finished it with a first-time strike.
Five minutes later, Grado sent Zarate through on goal again, where he coolly dispatched his second one-on-one opportunity, giving Long Beach a commanding 3-0 lead by the 28th minute.
The Vikings made the most of their depth, rotating several players throughout the match. Late in the second half, forward David Huerta capped off the scoring, sealing the 4-1 victory.
"It was great to see the team come out with a lot of energy and get the early 3-0 lead," said Assistant Coach Cameron Beaulac. "We are continuing to improve as we prepare for conference play."
The Vikings now shift their focus to conference play, which kicks off on Tuesday, October 8, at Cerritos College, with the match set to begin at 4:00 PM.
